An Overview of ISA/IEC 62443

About the Topic:

This presentation will be focused on the evolution of ISA/IEC 62443 overall and its growing impact on the industrial automation space.  Key aspects of the presentation will include:

-          History and Lineage of ISA/IEC 62443 from ISA99

-          Organization of the overall Standard

-          Key aspects of the Standard from an Asset Owner, Systems Integrator, and Vendor perspective

-          Intersections of the Standard with other areas (e.g., Functional Safety, IT Security, etc.)

This presentation is designed to provide a broad overview of the ISA/IEC 62443 standard and how its being applied within the industry today.  We will also be discussing similar initiatives that have emerged from national and regional organizations and their potential intersection with the ISA/IEC efforts.

Speaker Bio:

Brian D. Wisniewski, CISSP, GCIH, CEH, ITIL, LTC (USAR)

As a member of the Rockwell Automation Product Security Office, Brian currently serves as the Manager, Engineering Security focused on Cyber Threat Intelligence, Security-Related Standards & Compliance, and Security-Related Research & Development.

Brian previously spent the last five years with Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute in their CERT Division as the Department of Defense Resilience Technology Portfolio Manager.  His work included support for cybersecurity research, development, training, and process improvement for a variety of organizations including the United States Army, the National Security Agency, United States Cyber Command, and the Department of Homeland Security.  Prior to Carnegie Mellon, Brian has served in a variety of roles in both the public and private sector to include Consultant, Software Developer, Manager, Director, and Chief Information Officer.  Brian is also a commissioned officer with over 23 years in the United States Army and Army Reserve and currently serves as the Battalion Commander for the Northeast Cyber Protection Center in collaboration with MIT Lincoln Labs.
