ISA CLEVELAND SECTION PROGRAM
Wednesday, February 7, 2018, 5:30 – 8:00 PM
Smart Grid Technologies
1 PDH Hour will be awarded
About the Topic:
Smart grid technologies are digital technologies that allow for two-way communication between the utility and its customers, monitoring
and sensing along the transmission and distribution lines, and implementation of advanced control strategies that can enhance the reliability
and resiliency of the overall energy system. Smart grid technologies are transforming the today’s energy system to a system that enables
informed participation by customers, accommodates centralized and distributed generation options, enables new products, services and
markets, and optimizes assets and operating efficiency. This talk will present some benefits, challenges and opportunities for these evolving
systems and will present several case studies to illustrate the key concepts.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Maya Prica received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Novi Sad in 2000 and 2005, respectively, and Ph.D.
degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA in 2010. She is an Assistant Professor at
Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland (CWRU), OH. Her interest is in distribution system planning and protection; integration of advanced technologies
and control; decision-making for future electricity systems; and optimization of energy storage operation. She recently spent one year as a visiting scholar at
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) advising FERC staff on the impact of distributed energy resources on the bulk power system.
Before joining CWRU, Dr. Prica was a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton supporting National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh, Department of Energy
Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability and Advanced Research Power Agency – Energy (ARPA-E). She also was a software developer for DMS Group,
Novi Sad working on analytical functions for distribution system planning and operation.
